Mystic Green Drinks met for the third time at the Mystic Aquarium. Participants mingled over hors d’oeuvres, wine, and beer served by Ocean Blue Catering.
“Thirty-eight people attended, and we expect more to come each time. It’s all by word of mouth and starting to catch on,” said Mary Spicer, president of Spicer’s Events, which hosts the gatherings. “This is our way of giving back to the community and supporting the local eco efforts of individuals and businesses.”
Green Drinks is an international network of after-work events, serving up drinks, food, and opportunities for conversation, networking, and learning with other “green-minded” individuals at venues in more than 300 cities around the world. Local companies and individuals who are passionate about environmental and sustainability issues, such as green building and design, sustainable energy, and organic gardening all met together and the conversations abounded.
Kelly Matis, vice president of education and public conservation programs at Mystic Aquarium & Institute for Exploration, spoke about the aquarium’s ongoing conservation efforts, as well as Sustainable Mystic, an initiative spearheaded by 30 community leaders to actively protect Mystic’s natural and historic resources as it grows and prospers economically.
Attendees brought their brochures, magazines, newsletters, and other materials to share with others. Organic cotton Mystic Green Drinks T-shirts and organic coffee from Bean & Leaf were given away as door prizes.
The next Green Drinks event will take place in January. Visit www.greendrinks.org for updates and more information.
