Season Review
Record: 12-6 regular
season, 8-0 SCC Oronoque (division champions), 12-8 overall
Head Coach: Angela
Taylor, 4th season
Assistant Coach: Nally
Sahin
Captains: Danielle
Bourne (middle hitter), Zoe Lowe (outside hitter), and Lexi Pepe (setter)
Seniors: Bourne,
Lowe, Pepe, and Nablissa Lomotey (middle hitter)
Biggest
Accomplishments: Not only did Branford claim its first-ever outright Southern
Connecticut Conference Oronoque Division crown this season, but the Hornets
also posted an undefeated division record in the process. Consequently,
Branford qualified for both the SCC and Class L tournaments. Another
accomplishment is that the Hornets had four athletes make the All-Oronoque
squad, which is a rare feat. Taylor
complimented her team for its “heart and hard work,” saying that it was a
“strong, well-rounded group” in which every player led the team in a different
way.
Postseason Awards: Lomotey
made the All-Oronoque squad for the first time and was also named Second Team
All-State as well as New Haven Register All-Area. Bourne, Lowe, and Pepe also
earned All-Oronoque honors.
Next Year’s Outlook:
Branford loses a lot of its key components, especially on the offensive side,
but Taylor is
happy that a lot of aggressive defensive-minded players are returning and that
they’re already talking about next year. Coming back with the most varsity
experience are Hailey Atkinson and Coleen Dziura, plus Alici Ni, Heather Ross, Sarah
Ardito, and Kendall Milles.
