The A. R. Evans, Jr. and C. A. Lutz, Sr., VFW Post 4608, located in Ledyard is very active in the community. The Post promotes and sponsors the VFW Patriot’s Pen, Junior High and Middle school essay programs and the Voice of Democracy, High School scholarship program. The Post supports local youth activities such as the Boy Scouts of America. Annually the Post places flags on veteran’s gravesites in all town cemeteries, participates in the “Buddy Poppy” program and marches in town parades. The Post also maintains a memorial bench in Ledyard Center and is the caretaker of the Williams Cemetery on Town Farm Road.
